Naturopathic Medicine is a unique and comprehensive approach to improving health and treating illness. Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) support and stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself, focusing on prevention and using natural substances and treatments. The primary goal of naturopathic treatment is to address the underlying cause of illness, rather than simply treating or suppressing symptoms. NDs provide primary health care services, diagnose and treat a variety of acute and chronic illnesses, and practice disease prevention by educating and empowering patients to become active participants in their own healthcare.
IDENTIFY & TREAT THE CAUSE
In addition to alleviating acute and chronic symptoms, NDs seek to identify and remove underlying causes of illness. This approach moves the body toward maintaining an optimal state of health.
DOCTOR AS TEACHER
NDs work collaboratively with patients by sharing knowledge and information to support the patient in achieving their health goals. Patients are encouraged to take responsibility for their own health.
TREAT THE WHOLE PERSON
NDs look at the ‘whole picture’. This means that in addition to treating the primary concern, NDs also examine the physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental and social factors contributing to one’s health.
NDs emphasize disease prevention by assessing individual risk factors, heredity, and susceptibility to disease. Appropriate interventions are then utilized to promote health and to prevent disease.
SUPPORT THE HEALING POWER OF NATURE
Naturopathic medicine recognizes an ordered and intelligent self-healing process that is inherent to every individual. NDs work to remove obstacles to healing and facilitate recovery by supporting this natural self-healing process.
Clinical Nutrition examines the relationship between diet and health. Special diets may be recommended. Treatments may include nutritional supplements such as vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other nutraceuticals.
Botanical/Herbal Medicine uses plant substances for their healing properties and nutritional value. The use of plants for healing dates back to the beginning of civilization and is the foundation of modern pharmacology.
Asian Medicine is based on balancing the flow of Qi (energy) through the meridian pathways and includes the use of Acupuncture and Oriental herbs.
Homeopathy is based on the principle of “like cure like” and uses minute amounts of natural substances to stimulate the self-healing abilities of the body.
Lifestyle Counseling helps patients make informed choices to reach and maintain their optimal health.
IV Therapy uses high dose solutions of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, homeopathics and plant extracts, which are injected directly into the bloodstream for immediate absorption into tissues and organs.
